Happy Valentine's Day

It looks like we won't be going anywhere today. School was cancelled, which means we won't have youth group. And I thought I still heard that roads were closed. The county closed all their roads yesterday to keep people inside and off of the roads, because they couldn't keep up with the drifting. It was my scheduled day off today, so I didn't have to worry about getting up for work. It's nice to not have to go anywhere, but Jonathon and I both got a little cabin fever yesterday since we CAN'T go anywhere. We did have a friend stop by on his snowmobile, so Jonathon got to drive it for a little while. It is off limits to me :(

Jonathon surprised me this morning with a gift card for a 1-hr prenatal massage. What a sweetheart! And all I did was make him heart-shaped pancakes! We hope everyone enjoys their Valentine's Day, but more importantly that the special little things don't stop in February!

Snowed In...Sort Of

Today, as Jessica got ready for work she had turned on the radio to see if she would have to go to work. The bank had told her if they would shut the bank down that they would announce it on a local radio station. They did announce that the bank was closing, but not until 10:00 am. That means Jessica had to drive to work and work for 2 hours, likely when no one else was going to be out and about. Most businesses in town are closed today as we're expected to have around 12-13 inches of snow today. So it's nice that she has to get out and do nothing for two hours.

My Senior Pastor, Tim, called this morning and told me not to go in to the office today as well. But, I needed my laptop, so I made a quick trip. The roads are getting pretty bad, as the wind is blowing between 30-40 mph, causing what would be normally wet snow that wouldn't drift, to do just that.

This last week has been a bit hard for a few of our teenagers in our youth group. A young, 16 year-old man, who was a couple day away from getting his liscense, was injured and killed in an auto accident. The funeral was yesterday. This boy and his family have been attending our church for quite some time, but I had never been able to meet this boy. I'm not sure he had been to church since I've been here. But a number of our students who have been around for a while were well acquainted with him. It's hard to know how to comfort these teens, as some of them aren't showing any emotion, yet some show every bit that they have. It's just been my prayer that they end up talking with someone about this whole thing. Death is a BIG thing for a teenager to think about.

It's been a While

It's been some time since we last posted; almost two weeks. Life here has been fairly uneventful in the last couple of weeks. We are in the process of moving some things around the house in getting ready for the baby to be here (only six more months). We decided that we needed a dresser for the baby's room, and since the one that I was using was in a set with the crib that we have I had to get rid of my dresser. So we decided to just get new bedroom furniture while we had the money (people say that kids take it all). Now we just need to move the bed from the baby's room to the spare bedroom/office/sewing room (coincidentally, the smallest room in the house).

Youth group continues to go well. Just this last week we had one of our best turnouts. Our Wednesday nights are designed to be fun with a little bit of good teaching, but it's to wet their appetite for more, and head on to Sunday morning small groups. It's been exciting lately.

Just this last Wed. our game guy (who is super creative) came up with a different version of capture the flag. We are in a series talking about the armor of God, so he used a boxing head gear as the "Helmet of Salvation," a shoe as the "Shoes of Readiness," and a plastic sword as the "Sword of the Spirit." Once the kids found these items, it gave them immunity from the bullets that were being thrown while others tried to capture the flag. Did I mention that the bullets were about 100 or so jumbo marshmallows?

The game was a great idea, but it ended up just turning into a giant game of throw 100 marshmallows. It did supply us with a good amount of laughs.

Well, that's about it. Today is my day off, so I'm going to try and get some things fixed that need fixin'.
